South Shore
Private Day Tour from Reykjavik
Exploring an ice cave is something many visitors to Iceland want to experience. On this super-jeep day tour from Reykjavik, you can explore an ice cave and enjoy all the classic sights of Iceland’s south shore; black sand beaches, wonderful waterfalls and glaciers
Your journey begins driving east from Reykjavik and towards Eyjafjallajokull glacier.
There you stop at Seljarlandsfoss freefalling waterfall. A short path leads behind the waterfall, where you can feel the spray and drizzle on your face and see it from an interesting perspective. Refreshed, you travel onwards to Skogafoss, a beautiful waterfall which flows down from a high cliff.
Near the waterfall is the Skogar folklore museum, where you can see old turf houses and tools and household objects made in the late 18th and early 19th century. Heading towards the ocean, you stop at a black sand beach to enjoy the view of Reynisdrangar, strange basalt sea stacks that stand out from the ocean. Close by is Dyrholaey, a small peninsula which forms an arch into the sea. In the summer puffins make their nesting at Dyrholaey. On a clear day you have a beautiful view of Myrdalsjokull glacier.
On the way back we can visit the town of Hveragerdi. The town is built on a geothermal hot spot and many inhabitants make their living from greenhouse cultivation. Back in Reykjavik your driver guide drops you off at your hotel or a restaurant of your choice.

Q: Do we need to bring lunch or is there a place to stop on the way?
A: There are cafés and bistros on the south shore so you can buy lunch – so, no you don’t have to bring anything.
We had a wonderful South Shore Iceland tour out of Reykjavik with BJ. He picked us up promptly at our hotel and so began an informative and entertaining trip along the Soith coast . We went to all the major sites as well as some “extra” stops to really get a feeling of the unbelievable geography that makes up Iceland. We had an excellent lunch on the way . All in all a terrific day in Iceland. I would highly recommend this tour company to anyone who wants an excellent private tour.
